About this course
The Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt is a professional who is well versed in the Lean Six Sigma Methodology. He or she typically leads complex improvement projects in a full-time capacity.
A Lean Six Sigma Black Belt possesses a thorough understanding of all aspects of the Lean Six Sigma Methodology including a high-level of competence in the subject matters contained within the phases of Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control (DMAIC) and understands how to implement, perform, interpret and apply Lean Six Sigma at an advanced level of proficiency.
Our Black Belt training program is conducted over a period of seventeen (17) days. This includes:
- 20 hours of online prerequisite study
- 80 hours in-class, (two 40 hours session) over 2 months which includes a 150-question exam
- 36 hours for two (2) high level virtual simulated Lean Six Sigma exercises to reinforce learning which equates to 136 hours of training time.
While there are no specific candidate requirements for this course, it is highly recommended to individuals serving or wishing to serve either as supervisors, managers, directors, and above. Typical participants include manufacturing, process, or systems engineers, quality engineers, design engineers and other technologists who will be responsible to define, launch, and execute Lean Six Sigma projects.

The knowledge as it relates to the integration of Lean Six Sigma methodology and the DMAIC Strategy (Define-Measure-Analyze-Improve-Control).
How to effectively identify, select, launch and manage Lean Six Sigma projects.
A formal Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification is granted only after the following: • Successful completion of the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training and completion of a Lean Six Sigma project of which the results are subject to review and approval by a Six Sigma by Design instructor. • Completion of Six Sigma by Design’s Lean Six Sigma Black Belt examination
